Return on Investment (ROI) Calculator

Calculate Return on Investment (ROI) and annualized ROI for any investment. Understand your profit percentage and compare different investments.

How to Use & Understand This Calculator

Return on Investment (ROI) is the single most important metric for evaluating the efficiency of any investment. It expresses the profit or loss relative to the initial cost as a percentage, giving you a universal way to compare wildly different investment types — stocks, real estate, business, gold — on equal terms.

The basic formula is: ROI = (Final Value - Initial Investment) / Initial Investment × 100. However, raw ROI does not account for time. A 50% ROI over 2 years is very different from a 50% ROI over 10 years. This is why the Annualized ROI (CAGR) is the more meaningful metric: CAGR = (Final/Initial)^(1/years) - 1.

Real-world example: You invested ₹50,000 in a mutual fund 3 years ago, and it is now worth ₹75,000. The total ROI is 50%. But the annualized CAGR is only about 14.5% — which is still excellent but gives a truer picture of year-on-year growth than the headline 50% figure.

When comparing two investments, always use CAGR, not total ROI. A stock that doubled in 2 years (CAGR: ~41%) beats one that tripled in 8 years (CAGR: ~15%).
