Daily Calorie Requirement (TDEE)

Find your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) based on your weight, height, age, gender, and activity level. Plan your calorie intake for weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain.

How to Use & Understand This Calculator

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total number of calories your body burns in a day, accounting for all activities including exercise, walking, digestion, and involuntary functions. It is the gold standard number for designing any nutrition plan.

TDEE is calculated in two steps: First, find your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Then multiply by your Physical Activity Level (PAL) multiplier. If your TDEE is 2,200 calories: eating at 2,200 maintains weight; eating at 1,700 (deficit of 500 kcal/day) creates roughly 0.5 kg fat loss per week (since 3,500 kcal ≈ 1 lb fat).

For muscle gain (lean bulk), a 200-300 calorie surplus above TDEE provides energy for muscle building without excessive fat gain. For aggressive weight loss, never go below 1,200 kcal (women) or 1,500 kcal (men) as this risks nutrient deficiencies and muscle loss.

Important caveat: Activity multipliers are estimates. Track your actual weight changes weekly for 2-3 weeks and adjust your calorie intake up or down by 100-150 kcal to fine-tune to your specific metabolism.
