How to Use & Understand This Calculator

In India, your CTC (Cost to Company) is the total amount your employer spends on you annually. Your in-hand salary (take-home pay) is always significantly lower due to various statutory deductions and components that are paid to government or held in accounts on your behalf.

A typical salary structure includes: Basic Salary (40-50% of CTC) — taxable and forms the basis for PF and HRA. HRA (House Rent Allowance) — 40-50% of Basic, partially or fully tax-exempt if you pay rent. Special Allowances — the remaining amount, fully taxable. Employer PF — 12% of Basic, not received in-hand but contributed to EPF. Employee PF — another 12% of Basic (capped at ₹1,800/month on ₹15,000 wage cap) deducted from your gross.

Professional Tax is a state-level levy on employment income. Different states charge differently — Maharashtra charges up to ₹200/month, Karnataka up to ₹200/month. Some states don't charge it at all. This calculator uses a standard estimate.

Income Tax (TDS) is the largest additional deduction not shown here — it depends heavily on your tax regime (Old vs. New), investments, and total income. Use a dedicated income tax calculator for accurate TDS estimates.
